At least once every five years a cleaning - threshing by professionals is required. Indeed, the main destructive agents are sand, soil and moisture. The fine particles infiltrate to the base of the mat and scratch the wool strands that break during repetitive passage. Once a year, the best method to remove dust from a carpet is to turn it over, velvet side against the ground. The carpet should remain in that position for a good two weeks. Do not hesitate to walk on the carpet while it is in this position. This will remove the compacted dust from the structure and effectively speed up dust removal with a vacuum cleaner. You then brush with the carpet with water and a small amount of ammonia

Carpets are made of natural materials, therefore perishable. This is the reason deterioration seems inevitable; even on the best-maintained carpets: the velvet wears out, the fringes come off, and the edges are removed or come off.
